Maternity Care: Prenatal Diet

Although the ideal would be to have a significant amount of folic acid at the time of conception, it can also be obtained in other ways, affirms Dr. Ellen Schwartzbard, Obstetrician and Gynecologist with Baptist Health South Florida.
She advises taking a vitamin containing 400 mg of folic acid every day, eating a bowl of breakfast cereal every day and eating a diet with plenty of fortified grains and foods like beans, peas and leafy greens.
Eating a balance healthy diet is always important for new moms, as well as having a good weight.
